SAEOPP: Update from SAEOPP's Legislative, Educational, and Fiscal Concerns Committee
Thursday, January 21st, 2010
TASPians,
Please see the updates below from Tracy Lyons, chair of the Legislative, Educational, and Fiscal Concerns Committee.
- ETS/EOC Competition - summer or fall 2010
- UB Regular Competition – possibly fall 2010 (if the $57M is not restored by President Obama in his February 2010 budget). Why is this so – the $57M that funded 187 UB programs came from an account that no longer exists. If the money is not in place for next year, the Department of Education most hold a competition this year because they will not have enough funds to ask for an extension allowing all current programs to operate an additional year. There has been a year’s extension for SSS and ETS/EOC but the monies will not be available to extend a year UB without the $57M.
- UB Classic/UBMS/VUB Competition – summer or fall 2011 (if $57M is restored in President’s budget)
- McNair Competition – summer or fall 2011
- I3 (Investing in Innovation) Competition – late spring 2010. What are the I3 Grants and why would TRIO people be interested? “One of the proposed competitive priorities for I3 Funding is for Innovations that Support College Access and Success. COE believes that many current college access programs — Talent Search, Upward Bound and GEAR-UP as well as state and privately funded programs — have the potential to prepare competitive proposals for I3 funding. “
