Office of TRIO Programs  - -  Position Continuation Contingent upon Grant Funding  -- UPWARD BOUND Project Counselor - Level 8   The full-time positions are under the immediate supervision of the director.  The Counselor will perform the following duties:  travel daily to target schools to provide personal and career counseling and academic advisement to participants; recruit, interview and select eligible participants from high schools in Carter, Johnson, Sullivan, Unicoi and Washington counties; administer, score and interpret academic proficiency tests, career interest and personality inventories; provide postsecondary advisement; conduct four group seminar/workshops during weekly academic sessions; maintain records and files on each participant; be willing to supervise participants on overnight trips and be willing to work an extended schedule during the weekly Monday night academic sessions, some weekends and the summer six-week student residential component at ETSU Main campus in Johnson City. Qualifications:  Master's degree in Counseling/Guidance; two years experience working with students from disadvantaged backgrounds preferred; two years successful work experience in an Upward Bound project preferred; and must exhibit training, sensitivity and commitment to the needs of students from disadvantaged backgrounds. 

Office of TRIO Programs  - -  Position Continuation Contingent upon Grant Funding  -- Upward Bound Educational Advisor— Level 6 Characteristics of positions:  The full-time position is under the immediate supervision of the assistant director, the advisor will perform the following duties:  plan, design, coordinate and implement educational programs for the Upward Bound participants in accordance with the grant proposal; recruit participants; conduct weekly school visitations to target high schools in Carter, Johnson, Sullivan, Unicoi, and Washington counties; provide academic, career, financial aid and postsecondary education advisement to participants.  The position includes extensive travel and time spent at the target schools.  Applicants must be willing to work an extended schedule that includes: providing workshops/seminars in the evenings, some weekends, a four-day summer trip and a six-week residential summer program.  Qualifications:  Bachelor's degree (Bachelor's degree in Education or related field preferred); two years experience in the delivery of services in an educational outreach program preferred; two years experience working with students from disadvantaged backgrounds preferred; two years TRIO work experience preferred; and must exhibit training, sensitivity and commitment to the needs of students from disadvantaged backgrounds.
