Dear Upward Bound Directors:

It is with great excitement that TASP once again has the opportunity to offer some of our most outstanding Upward Bound students the chance to participate in the TASP Scholar’s Bowl competition this year.  From the October meeting, it was discussed eliminating student initiatives including the Upward Bound scholar’s bowl or devise a different activity for student participation.  This was, in part, due to the belief that SAEOPP would not sponsor a regional tournament as they had in the past.  SAEOPP has decided to sponsor the regional tournament once again this year and due to this decision based on discussion at the SAEOPP conference TASP feels that it would be beneficial to continue with the scholar’s bowl competition and open it up to all Upward Bound programs in the state.  The winner of our state competition will then represent TASP in the regional competition.

The Upward Bound Scholar’s Bowl competition will be held on the campus of Tusculum College on Saturday, March 9, 2013.  Arrangements have been made with the Hampton Inn in Greeneville.  When making reservations ask for the Upward Bound Scholar’s Bowl rate.  The rate is a very reasonable $79.00+tax. Hotel information is:

                                                Hampton Inn

                                                3130 E. Andrew Johnson Hwy.

                                                Greeneville, TN 37745

Due to the late decision in keeping the UB scholar’s bowl, this is somewhat a time sensitive issue.  Many of the logistical planning cannot adequately take place until we have a definitive number of programs and students that will be participating.  Enclosed you will find a participation form that needs to be completed and returned by the deadline Friday, February 15. A buffet style brunch for $6.00 per person will be available at Tusculum College in the cafeteria after the awards ceremony for any programs wishing to take advantage of this opportunity.  On the participation form, please include in the appropriate space if you will be choosing to eat on campus.  It is important that this number is as accurate as possible.

Additional information will be sent to those programs indicating that they will be participating.  I encourage all programs that have the ability to take advantage of this wonderful opportunity for your students.  For any program that is looking for practice material www.patrickspress.com is an excellent source for practice questions. Good luck and hope to see you in Greeneville on March 9.
